Excellent for Military Entrance exams as well.

Excellent book to refresh yourself on the basic math concepts that you knew before, but lost over time. The progressive nature of the book is extremely useful in terms of building upon knowledge that you've just learned and applying it to the next concept in the book. This book is excellent for individuals wanting prep for military entrance exams and is the primary reason I bought this book. If you'll be taking the AFOQT or ASTB-E, then this book is an excellent supplement to your study gouge. The practice tests at the end of each lesson really reinforces the material you just learned and the end of chapter practice tests are great to lock in all the knowledge you just went through and solidity that knowledge to long term memory.

Used this book to study for the ASTB-E. Probably the best math book I've ever owned. The word problem section was the major reason for my success. Definitely recommend.

Excellent content, awful layout

I must say this book is much more thorough than the Kaplan math review. My one complaint is that the thickness and layout of the book is a bit overwhelming at times and makes it that much more difficult to tackle the coursework. The Kaplan book is more user-friendly and makes it much easier to get through the work. If you don't have a lot of time do the Kaplan book because it's easier to get through the information faster because the layout is more compact. BUT this book is a bit more thorough so if you can ignore the thickness of the book because of super wide margins and such (great for good scratch work but makes it seem more overwhelming than it really is).

An excellent reference or textbook in field of assessment methodology

John Till and Helen Grogan have put together an excellent team of authors with great knowledge in the field of environmental assessment and uncertainty analysis. A major inclusion in this text is one of communication with the public and how to gain their trust in dealing with the sensitive and difficult topic of radiological health effects. Dr. Till has specialized in this area as well as technical areas and has been awarded several national awards for his efforts. The text is clearly written by the various authors with many details, graphs, and tables to illustrate the points at hand. Many of the chapters also include problems which can be used for class assignments. It is this, however, where the text could use a little improvement. Yes, I could sit down and answer these prior to assignment but it would be nice if the chapter authors had either a separate text or supplied the rationale and solutions to their problem. Regardless, this book, to re-iterate, is an exceptional value and a leader in its field.

This was one of my favorite books of all time

I remember reading this book as a kid and loving it! Now I've got kids of my own starting to read, and I want to pick it up for them.
This is probably one of a handful of children's books I would ever consider paying a collector's price for because it is just so fun in the way it teaches kids the importance of learning to read.
All kids go shopping with their parents and can understand how important reading is to pick the right things. Fun story. Great book. I highly recommend it.

One of my favorite books of all time!

This book was read to my class by a school librarian when I was in grade school. I remember thinking it was the funniest book ever. I used to hate reading at that point and I was a terrible speller. Well, my spelling didn't improve because of this book, but my perception of reading was forever changed.
I was reminiscing with a friend of mine who was part of my class at the time. When I asked what her favorite story was, she named this one. Obviously, it had an impact on us both.
If you can get your hands on a copy, it is well worth the money. It will not dissappoint your kids. I had to go to eBay to find a copy. It's just as great as I remembered it. :o)

i'm buying this for my husband

This book is one of my all-time favorites. I remember reading it when I was little, and feeling so sorry for the poor little man who could not read. I have told my husband that this books reminds me of him so much...I send him to the store to get me sour cream and he comes back with cottage cheese! This book teaches not only the importance of literacy, but also the importance of empathy for others. You can't help but feel so bad for the little old man, and you cheer him for learning how to read. I read this book when I was 7 or 8 years old, and now I'm 31 and still enjoy it just as much. I love seeing how excited my kids get when I get out "Mommy's book" to read to them.
